Adoption and Childcare: The Gift of Nina I imagine myself as a teen growing up in a children’s home, wondering if and when anyone will come and rescue me. Do you ever think what that must be like to be without a family and a home? I’ve worked with many adoption agencies, children’s homes, and orphanages over the years as a volunteer. And the greatest joy for me is seeing a child adopted by a forever family. The moment when the family and the child come together is the greatest gift. For those kids who never get adopted, you see the disappointment, heartache, and sadness in their eyes, even in the children with the very best attitudes. Our Nina was nearly a teen when we first met her, and now, she has a loving husband and three “babies” of her own. And we adopted her as a family much later than we wish we could have.
